03 Apr Stepping out of your comfort zone
Do you constantly challenge the status quo, or is it nice and familiar in your comfort zone?
When was the last time that you stepped out of your comfort zone and pushed yourself to feel uncomfortable?
I find that, when running your own business, you are more likely to step out of your comfort zone. To strive for more and to test the boundaries.
This is because you often find yourself completing the tasks of several people, or working to meet the requirements of a customer, rather than simply based upon your previous skill set or experience.
But stepping out of your comfort zone can also increase your confidence and create its very own development opportunity. Sometimes we don’t know what we are capable of until we give things a try.
Have you found new skills as a result of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone? Time, efficiencies and growing market demands can mean that we need to revise our skill set frequently in order to thrive. How does this make you feel – excited or apprehensive?
Learning a new set of skills can bring with it much needed fulfilment, especially if your career or circumstances are particularly static.
Learning new skills can also provide a sense of satisfaction – that you are doing a good job or providing a superior service to your customer. This is as it should be and is a standard that you should be looking to maintain. Up-skilling, pushing yourself outside or your comfort zone and increasing your personal and professional offering all become intertwined.
